Harrogate Maids was a start up business by a long standing client running a small cleaning business in the Harrogate area. Knowing their market well, the client identified a new business opportunity for a modern domestic maid and support service, delivering a high quality service tailored to specific customer needs, and asked us to come up with branding and a new responsive website with full CMS capability.
Our brief was to create a brand idea and logo for the new Harrogate Maids business, which incorporated a seeming contradiction in terms; it was to appear modern and right up to date, and yet still convey the idea of a high quality, traditional domestic maids service. We arrived at an idea to convey tradition with a frilly, lacey headress motif, combined with a cartoon graphics approach reminiscent of The Jetsons 1960 futuristic cartoon series.
For the website, it was to be fully responsive, with a bespoke high quality design also spanning this divide between the traditional and modern.
We started by defining the brand, considering who its customers would be, understanding their expectations, and then delivering a look and feel which met these. After brainstorming a number of ideas we decided to go with the combination of the lacey traditional with the modern cartoon as described above. Concepts were produced for the logo, colour palettes and showing potential usage in typical contexts.
The result perfectly threaded the needle of these opposing requirements, and the new branding was immediately accepted by the client. We then developed concepts for the responsive website, and on acceptance it was quickly built and integrated with our CMS. The client was very happy with the new branding and website, and the business has now grown from nothing to have six staff in just over a year.
