Checking Performance on Mobiles and Tablets - 14/08/2014

Fewer large images and graphics can often mean faster load times, and a responsive website design can improve performance by incorporating flexible grids that adjust the content to fit a device’s screen size. This essentially means that mobile users, tablet users and desktop users are all presented with the same website, the only difference is that the content is cleverly adjusted, meaning all of your visitors get a more user-friendly experience.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that every responsive design is fast; content must always be carefully considered and pages should not be overloaded if you’re looking to deliver a consistent experience across multiple platforms. Some companies will decide to have a bespoke mobile version of their website created, meaning their desktop website can remain the same while another site is built specifically for mobile users. If you’ve developed a complex desktop website and you’re entirely happy with its performance, then it may not make sense to give your existing site a complete overhaul with a responsive design.

Every business needs to understand the behaviour of their audience before they decide to change the look and feel of their existing website. A responsive website design can be ideal if you’ve found that your important pages are suffering from high bounce rates (single page visits) for mobile and tablet users, leading to fewer enquiries, conversions and sales.

No matter what you decide to do, a mobile solution is required and whether an individual is visiting your website using a mobile phone, a laptop or a tablet, they must still be presented with a website that’s fast, easy to navigate and representative of your brand with the potential to develop and expand in the future.
